When the innovation of urgent care broke onto the scene about 15 years ago, patients with minor medical emergencies breathed a collective sigh of relief. A broken arm or a cut deep enough to require a few stitches no longer required waiting in the hospital emergency room among the seriously ill and traumatically injured. It also meant that someone with a serious bout of flu wouldn't have to wait days until their primary care doctor had an opening.
